Inspired by the scent of the mysterious night-blooming cereus, Cierge de Lune unveils the dark side of vanilla. Like the flower’s namesake, the Queen of the Night – a spectacular flower which only opens after dark and wilts as the sun rises, the scent spans a thrilling range from crystalline high notes, to a deep nocturnal base. Perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin created this inspired and suave fifth offering from Aedes de Venustas as an homage to this glamourous, elusive muse.
An outstanding, spicy Madagascan vanilla absolute laced with wisps of incense forms the heart of the composition with a tinge of tawny leather. A waft of hedione transmutes the vanilla into a cactus blossom, its pristine petals fleshed out by ylang-ylang. Bright and vibrant pink pepper & black pepper run an intriguing thread, from mineral, incense-like effects to resinous, smoky, dark chocolate notes. Then, in a final metamorphosis, musky Ambrox, underscored by a downy suede accord, turns the nocturnal bloom into a dusky second skin… at midnight to capture its poignantly fleeting beauty.
